Mount Mary is the leading Yarra Valley, Australia wine producer, mostly for their “Quintet” cabernet sauvignon blend. The wine is something of an anomaly in recent times in the Yarra Valley. The current Yarra Valley focus is on pinot noir and chardonnay. Cabernet sauvignon dominant wines from the region are said by some, and over time, to be hard to sell. I expect this is correct. The pity is that Yarra Valley cabernet sauvignon blends can, intermittently and at their best, be a world class wine. This wine is the 2021 vintage of the Quintet and is a case in point. It is an outstanding wine. Deeply coloured in the glass, it has refined aromas of blackcurrant and still integrating, slightly raw cedar and clove. The palate is medium bodied, and its blackcurrant flavours are supplemented by cloves and blackberry. The tannins are fine grained. Its special character is a seamless harmony. This wine will benefit from another 2-3 years in the cellar. Drink it over the next 15 years. Review Rating: Outstanding (★★★★★, 95 points). Website: Mount Mary. Tasted: September 2025.
