This wine is a montepulciano from First Ridge in Mudgee in New South Wales, Australia. Montepulciano is the grape variety more usually seen in Montepulciano d’Abruzzo from Italy. I suspected this grape variety might adapt well to the warm climate of Mudgee, and it does. In the glass, the wine has a dark colour. There are aromas of iodine and plum skins. The palate is very good, with generous fruit supported by pleasingly firm tannins. Drink over the next 5-6 years. Review Rating: Good to Very Good (★★★☆, 89 points). Website: First Ridge Wines.
