This is the 52nd vintage of Yalumba’s Signature cabernet sauvignon and shiraz blend from the Barossa Valley in Australia. Writing this made me reflect anew whether the “new world” moniker for Australian wine is very out of date. The 2023 vintage of Yalumba’s signature has an inky colour in the glass as befits a very young wine from this region. Its aromas are complex and remind of iron, earth, leaf and dark olives, its cabernet sauvignon contribution accordingly evident. The palate shows the harmony of this classic Australian blend, with notes of tea, (shiraz) spice and gravel supplementing taut, firm dark fruits. This is a complex and very good wine from Yalumba for a fair price. Drink it from 2028 to 2040 and perhaps beyond. Review Rating: Very Good (★★★★, 91 points). Source: Sample. Website: Yalumba.
