This wine is the 2003 vintage of Bowen Estate’s cabernet sauvignon from Coonawarra in Australia. Coonawarra is well regarded, and underrated, for producing long aged wines from cabernet sauvignon. This wine unfortunately did not make it, despite excellent cellaring. The wine has typical Australian cabernet sauvignon tertiary aromas of tomato bush and herbs. The palate though has lost is balance. A core of acidity presents as a “wall” and tastes separate to its dull echoes of dark fruit and mulch. Bowen typically recommend an earlier drinking window for their reds of around a decade and they appear to be right. Drink up. Review Rating: Acceptable (★★, 80 points). Website: Bowen Estate.
