This is a superlative wine from Dalwhinnie in the western Victorian region of the Pyrenees in Australia. From the 2004 vintage, tasted at 22 years of age and cellared since purchase at release following persuasion by the then owner and viticulturist David Jones, this is among the best Victorian shiraz I have tasted. In the glass, the wine has sublime aromas of plum, dark fruits and cedar. The wine has a mature grace to it yet it retains the vibrancy of perfectly ripe fruit. The palate is silky and the length on the finish particularly long. This wine is compelling drinking and a testament to the capability of this region, site and producer.
