Dalwhinnie Shiraz 2006 Wine Review

This wine review is of Dalwhinnie’s 2006 Moonambel shiraz from the Pyrenees region in western Victoria. Dalwhinnie is the leading producer in this remote region. The shiraz style here is a crossover style – syrah like in manner, but in a warmer climate form with richer fruit. It reminds a little of Margaret River shiraz, a style I also enjoy with age. The 2006 vintage tasted here at 15 years of age is an impressive wine. Deeply coloured, it has mature aromas of roasted black fruits. The palate is dry, with reminders of spice and oak and distinguished medium to high, fine grained, tannins that coat the gums and tongue. The finish is long (20 seconds). This is a very good mature shiraz that is ready to drink now. Rating: Very Good. Website: Producer, Vivino, Wine Searcher. Reviewed: July 2021.
