Domaine Huet is one of Loire Valley in France’s most famous producers, and this Vouvray Sec from the 2023 vintage does not disappoint. Chenin blanc is one the most adaptable of the “big 5” white grape varieties (chardonnay, riesling, sauvignon blanc, pinot gris/grigio and chenin) and probably does not quite get the credit it warrants. Like riesling, chenin is able to produce first class wines in all formats from dry to sweet, and do so in a wide range of climates. This wine is a Loire Valley paradigm and has distinctive and complex aromas of quince, stone, lemon and flint. But quince in particular. The palate is wooly, complex and has pinpoint high acidity which contributes a delightful pure freshness to this wine. This is an outstanding wine and can be approached now and over the next decade. Review Rating: Very Good to Outstanding (★★★★☆, 94 points). Website: Domaine Huet. Tasted: August 2026.
