Domaine Cauhapé Geyser Jurançon Sec 2020 Review

Domaine Cauhapé Geyser Jurançon Sec 2020 Review

Jurançon sec?  Do we have to try this?  This region is admittedly obscure for the Australian reader.  Jurançon is in the deep south west of France, roughly 150km west of Toulouse and north of the Pyrenees.  It is also a region better known for its sweet wines.  The wine is typically a blend of gros manseng and petit manseng.  This particular wine is a blend of 30% gros manseng, 30% petit manseng, 30% camaralet, 5% lauzet and 5% courbu blanc.  So no useable information there. It may be instead more useful to observe that the style of Jurançon sec is typically high acidity, has a fullish body and orange peel zesty aromas and characters.

Jurançon sec is well worth your interest however as, despite the lack of familiar names, the “QPR” (quality to price ratio) is high.  From the 2020 vintage, this wine from Domaine Cauhapé is an obvious yellow gold in colour. It has aromas of oranges, orange zest and little green pineapple. The palate has a full body and is balanced by high acidity which cuts through, without being overly obvious about it.  Overall this is a serious and good wine which can be approached now. Try this wine when you might have chosen an albariño. Review Rating: Very Good (★★★★, 90 points). Website: Domaine Cauhapé. Tasted: June 2026.  Like: Subscribe.
