Cooks Lot Handpicked Chardonnay 2025 Review

Cooks Lot Handpicked Chardonnay 2025 Review

This wine from Cooks Lot is a cool climate mineral, stoney expression of Australian chardonnay.  It’s from the cool climate Orange region and the 2025 vintage. Now, there are broadly four styles of modern Australian chardonnay: (i) modern cool climate with restrained stone fruits, (ii) very restrained and high acidity expressions of chardonnay with partial or no malolactic fermentation – these are almost Chablis like, except that Chablis typically undergoes a full malolactic fermentation, (iii) blowsy and (iv) not very good. This wine fits comfortably within category (ii). There are aromas of citrus, lemon and a little breadiness from time on lees.  The palate is a fresh and high acid style.  The is more of a structure than a fruit wine and will suit those looking for exactly that.  Drink this wine over the next 5 years.  Review Rating: Good to Very Good (★★★☆, 88 points). Source: Sample. Website: Cooks Lot Wines. Tasted: August 2026.
