Rockford’s Rifle Range from the Barossa Valley is the real hero of Rockford’s range of wines. The “Basket Press” is their wine of renown. Typically you would expect to see Barossa cabernet sauvignon not quite work, the region generally being too warm. The Rifle Range however is consistently very good, supported by tastings of multiple vintages. The 2018 vintage has its typical aromas of dark, savoury olives and blackcurrant and a little leaf. The palate is medium to full bodied and the style is brooding and savoury. This wine can be approached now, but it will improve with a further 3 to 5 years of cellaring.
