This review continues a theme of wines less commonly seen in Australia. The wine is from Stockman’s Ridge Wines and is a cabernet franc from the cool climate Orange region. From the 2022 vintage, it is in the style of St Emilion, rather than the crisp and herbal Loire Valley. In the glass, the wine has aromas of vanilla and clove. It avoids the combination of very overt eucalyptus and herbal characters that sometimes characterise Australian versions of cabernet franc. The palate has flavours reminding of red fruits and herbs, with firm tannins. This wine oscillates between a riper expression of cabernet franc supported by glossy oak and medium bodied cool climate fruit. It is drinking well now. The price is A$45. Review Rating: Good (★★★☆, 89 points). Website: Stockman’s Ridge Wines. Source: Sample. Tasted: November 2024.
