From Selbach-Oster in the Mosel in Germany, this is a very enjoyable Auslese riesling. It has an aroma of stone fruits and stones. On the palate, there is trademark very high acidity, but its finish has a perfectly poised, just sweet enough, character. Auslese can have quite the variation in impression of sweetness, consistent with the customary confusion of German wine labels that unhelpfully (in my view) keep these great wines away from a wider audience. This wine is at the “less sweet” end of the spectrum of Auslese. A light body and stone and lemon characters complete the impression. This is delicious drinking and only 8.5% alcohol. Try it if you can. Review Rating: Very Good (★★★★, 92 points). Website: Weingut Selbach Oster. Tasted: August 2026.
