Paringa Estate are a top pinot noir producer from the Mornington Peninsula in Australia. The styles of pinot noir in this region can be extravagant relative to the Yarra Valley, Geelong and Macedon Ranges, though they can be uncannily Burgundian when the pieces come together. This wine, tasted at 22 years of age, is such a wine. It has aromas damp rosemary, herbs and cherry. On the palate there are all these characters plus a blackcurrant character too. I typically only find this latter character in the Côte de Nuits. A lovely viscous texture completes the impression. This is first class aged pinot noir. Review Rating: Very Good (★★★★, 92 points). Website: Paringa Estate. Tasted: July 2026.
