Château Le Pape Pessac Leognan 2021 Review

Château Le Pape Pessac-Leognan 2021 Review

This wine review is of Château Le Pape’s 2021 vintage.  Not having previously tasted the wines of this producer, it turns out this label no longer exists, the grapes from the vineyard are now blended into Château Haut-Bailly’s second wine and the 2021 is its last vintage.  But, on the positive side of things, this wine is a very good one, it’s a bargain and it is well worth seeking out this last vintage. The wine has characteristic Pessac-Leognan aromas of tobacco, twigs and savoury blackcurrants. (In my opinion, Pessac-Leognan is among the most reliable Bordeaux regions for high quality, well priced wines.) The palate is medium bodied with very distinctive notes of pencil lead.  Generous length on the finish completes the impression.  This wine from Château Le Pape presents as a substantially higher quality wine than its price point and provides delicious current drinking.  Review Rating: Very Good (★★★★, 91 points).
