This wine is Rockford’s current release of their celebrated “Basket Press” shiraz from the Barossa Valley in Australia. It’s much too early to drink of course, but then again, why not. The 2022 vintage has an elegant youthful aroma of red and dark fruits, with a stone fruit kernel like character. The aroma reminded passingly of a Cote Rôtie. The palate has ripe spicy dark fruits and the finish is long and supple. Coiled and concentrated fruit runs across the palate with a subtlety that is neither heavy nor heady. This is a balanced release from Rockford that should age effortlessly for a couple of decades. While the wine can be approached now, cellar it for at least 5 years and longer if you can.
