Grosset Springvale Riesling Review

Grosset Springvale Riesling 2023 Review: A Complex Offering

From Australia’s top riesling producer, this wine review is of Grosset’s 2023 Springvale riesling from the Clare Valley in Australia.  While a good wine, I do not rate this wine as a pinnacle example.  This puts me at odds with some of the local wine press who appear to have formed the latter conclusion, but this is my opinion.  In the glass, the aroma is muted, with notes of green apples, gooseberry and almond meal.  Extended time on lees on the palate contributes I expect to this meal character and it is noticeable.  The palate is dry, the acidity is high, and the lees contribute texture with possible contribution from skins.  The finish is lemony, but this is not a fruit wine.  There is a complexity to this wine, but I was hoping for a more mineral, linear expression.  It will age for a long time.  Review Rating: Good to Very Good (★★★☆, 88 points).
