This wine review is of a new producer, D.M.L., producing pinot noir in the Yarra Valley and Mornington Peninsula. D.M.L. is a collaboration between two famed producers namely the D’Anna family (Hoddles Creek Estate), Sam Middleton (Mount Mary) and a footballer, Jordan Lewis. In this case, they have produced two terroir expressions of pinot noir, one from the Mornington Peninsula and the other from the Yarra Valley, each from the 2021 vintage.

If the object is to express terroir, then tasted blind, the project may be regarded as a success. The D.M.L. Yarra Valley pinot noir has a restrained aroma, with a stoney palate and medium body. Rating: Good to Very Good (★★★☆, 87 points). The D.M.L. Mornington Peninsula pinot noir is the more interesting of the two wines, with aromas of red florals and a velvety, supple palate. Rating: Good to Very Good (★★★☆, 89 points). Website: DML Wines. Tasted: April 2023.
