Second Glance Pet Nat 2022

This wine is a natural wine, specifically a “pet nat” (pétillant naturel, naturally sparkling) wine made from a blend of sauvignon, viognier and gewurtztraminer and the 2022 vintage.  It is a cloudy apple juice like colour in the glass.  It opens to aromatic tropical impressions of passionfruit, melon, apple skins and florals.  Not unlike a fruit punch.  The palate is initially frothy, but became lightly sparkling with time in the glass.  It has yellow apple and apple skin flavours together with a soda like minerally seam running through it.  The wine finishes dry, which was no certainty starting from its exotic aroma.  As a natural wine, this wine will appeal to those looking for something new, something a bit closer to fermented grape juice in its elemental form and of course those inclined to the novel.  It is suits casual summer drinking. To the more classically inclined, it doesn’t really remind of wine and is more like an aromatic cider.  However, that of course is not really the point. Rating: Good (★★★, 89 points).
