Tahbilk Eric Purbrick Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

This is Tahbilk’s top label wine, the Eric Purbrick cabernet sauvignon. From the 2015 vintage, the wine opens to a melange of green aromas.  Rosemary, rosemary twigs, camphor and bouquet garni are predominant.  The palate is medium bodied, with notes of blackcurrant and mint. Its finish is very fresh with a good backbone of bright acidity and firm tannins.  The alcohol is 14.0.  Overall, this is a refined and complex central Victorian cabernet sauvignon. At 8 years of age, bottled under screwcap and cellared since purchase at the winery, it is still primary in expression. It will suit ageing for a further decade and likely enter its best drinking window in 3 to 5 years’ time.  The question will be whether the green characters will yield.  Rating: Very Good (★★★★, 92 points). Website: Tahbilk Winery. Tasted: April 2023.
