This wine review is of Felton Road’s “Cornish Point” pinot noir from Central Otago in New Zealand and the 2020 vintage. It is a very polished wine, as might be expected from this producer and price (circa $90). In the glass, the aromas are tight and refined, reminding of red plums. The palate is also refined and balanced. Predominantly a brooding cherry in expression, there are also hints of saturated red fruits and some fruit sweetness as is typical of Central Otago pinot noir. Its 14.0 alcohol adds a little heft and ripeness. This is a fine pinot noir that is ready to drink now and over the next decade. Rating: Very Good (★★★★, 93 points), Website: Felton Road Wines, Reviewed: December 2022.
