Bouchard Père & Fils Clos-Vougeot 2005

This is an outstanding Clos-Vougeot from Bouchard Père & Fils and the 2005 vintage. Clos-Vougeot can be among the less reliable grand cru appellations owing to its size (49.25 hectares) and varied terroir. You can read more about the specifics of Clos-Vougeot here on the reliable Bourgogne wines website. This may be the best Clos-Vougeot I have encountered. It has an intense, deep fragrance of roses. The palate is medium bodied with an intense fruit sweetness and depth of flavour, reflecting the warmer 2005 vintage. It finishes with very long length and its soaring quality is self-evident. Ready to drink now, this wine can be approached over the next decade. Rating: ★★★★★ 96 points. Website: Bouchard. Reviewed: December 2022.
