Vasse Felix Cabernet Merlot 2012

This is a young vines-esque cabernet merlot from Vasse Felix.  It is satisfying though, and Australian labelling laws being as they are, it in fact proves to be a blend of 57% cabernet sauvignon, 36% merlot, 5% malbec and 2% petit verdot.  It sees only 8% new oak, reflecting the broader less is more trend.  In the glass, there are typical Margaret River cabernet aromatics of clove and green capsicum.  The palate is tight, with fresh and balanced blackcurrant and clove flavours.  Classier than its price.

Rating: Good, Abv: 14.5%, Price: $20, Vendors: http://www.wine-searcher.com/, Website: http://www.vassefelix.com.au, Tasted: 2015
