I had to give this wine a bit of time to show its best. It’s a blend of 50% mourvèdre, 25% syrah and 25% grenache from the fairly recently created (2005) Terrasses du Larzac appellation grown on the slopes of the Cevennes in the south of France. The surrounding region is probably best known as the home of Mas de Daumas Gassac. Some initial sweaty characters were shed to reveal quite pungent game meat and dark cherry characters from the mourvèdre, and some confectionary blueberry edges. The palate has flavours reminding of black cherry, earth and red meat and short to medium length. This wine definitely improved with time in the glass, and I found it to be quite balanced in the end.
