Xanadu’s “Next of Kin” range is a lower price point offering from Xanadu. This shiraz wine retails for around $18, as against around $29 for the “Xanadu Xanadu” offering.
I’ve enjoyed a number of Xanadu wines, although I didn’t really enjoy this one if I am to be perfectly honest. Purple in colour, with a medium to pronounced intensity of expression, it has aromatics of ripe plums, plum skins, pepper, green peppercorns and a twist of eucalyptus. Nothing wrong here. The palate is dry, with high acid, short to medium length and high alcohol, and flavours of squashed blueberries and plum jam. Here I felt the constituent parts of the palate a bit out of balance and a little hard going. Simultaneously high acid and high alcohol seemed to overwhelm, pull and stretch at the fruit, making the fruit flavours feel a bit gaunt and the finish a bit warm. Acceptable
