Chateau Haut-Batailley, at least in my mind, has a reputation for providing dependable rather than exceptional Pauillac. Nonetheless, I tend to buy this wine as mostly it is fairly priced for a cru classé. The 2008 vintage tasted here shows a bit of interest.
Purple in colour, the 2008 leads out with some complex aromatics of blackcurrant, clove, peppercorn, eath, anise and Christmas cake. The palate shows high acid, green peppercorn and blackcurrant flavours, medium length and mostly ripe tannins. Its most notable features are perhaps its balance of high acid and good length, which appear, at least at this point, to be congruent. I would suggest leaving this wine for another three years, and then drinking it over the next ten. Good
