Grenache is popular at the moment. My observation is that those who enjoy pinot noir often are open to grenache styles. McLaren Vale produces world class grenache and is typically a little more complex in style due to its stock of old vines. d’Arenberg’s Custodian grenache from the 2021 vintage has an aroma of red fruits. Its palate is brooding but fruity, with underlying dark cherries and dark plums. A full body, soft fruit, etched corners and spicey finish completes the impression. Ready now, this wine is lovely drinking. Review Rating: Very Good (★★★★, 90 points). Website: d’Arenberg. Source: Sample. Tasted: September 2024.
