This is a very good chardonnay from Lyons Will in the Macedon Ranges in Victoria. The vineyard’s site at 510 metres altitude in southern Victoria has enabled an actual cool climate expression of Australian chardonnay, with restrained aromas of nuts, stone fruit and smoke. The palate is a smidgeon over medium bodied, and has stone fruit characters. Its key point of interest is its high acidity which enhances its delicate length and combines well with its flinty and stone fruit characters. Notes of cedar and some lactic characters from 100% malolactic fermentation add complexity. The alcohol is only 12.4. This wine is ready to drink now and over the next 5 years. Review Rating: Very Good (★★★★, 90 points). Website: Lyons Will Estate. Source: Sample. Tasted: May 2024.
