From the great 2020 vintage, the second wine of Chateau Beychevelle, the Brulieres de Beychevelle gives a first impression of somewhat heavy handed oak, with predominant aromas of vanilla and cedar. The intention I expect will have been to suitably marry the ripe fruit of the 2020 vintage and provide for an earlier drinking, more obvious style. The palate has more interest and is medium bodied, the tannins moderate, the overall impression subtle and the wine finishes with nice length. This wine can be approached now but will benefit from a couple of years of cellaring. Rating: Good (★★★☆, 89 points). Website: Château Beychevelle. Tasted: January 2024.
