La Val Dei Preti Roero Riserva 2017

La Val dei Preti

From Roero in the north of Piedmont in Italy, this is a good nebbiolo from La Val dei Preti. It has aromas of herbs and camphor. The palate is dry and its primary features are its high (but not very high) acidity and chalky medium-high tannins. The alcohol is 14.5, there is medium length and a balanced, chalky finish. There was quite some bottle variation with this wine, with the best bottles having fresh acidity, attractive herbal/camphor aromas and the mentioned chalkiness. These I rated “very good”. The lesser bottles were more routine red fruited wines, the acidity medium range and the wine “good”. In both cases, the wine is ready to drink now. Rating: Good to Very Good (). Reviewed: February 2022.
