From the Rosso del Veronese IGT, this wine is a Valpolicella blend of corvina, rondinella and molinara. But mostly corvina (70%), the well regarded red grape from the region. It’s also made using an extra fermentation. The first is a normal primary one. The second less so; the wine is re-fermented with 25% semi-dried grapes and the result then undergoes malolactic fermentation. The intent is to add colour and extract.
Tasted blind, the wine has plum and plum skin aromatics. On the palate, there’s a streak of spearmint underlying a blackcurrant and plum expression in a medium bodied guise. Pleasant. (Alc: 13%, Region: Rosso de Veronese, Verona, North Eastern Italy, Rating: Good, Drink: now to 2021)
