Gartelmann’s “Phillip Alexander” is a blend of merlot, cabernet sauvignon and petit verdot. The 2013 vintage release is a good one. On the nose, there are coffee, plum and mocha aromatics. The palate is medium bodied, with fresh acidity and a crunchy impression. Some early raw edges settled with time in the glass; give it a short decant before serving. (Alc: 14.4%, Region: Mudgee, Rating: Good, Drink: now to 2022)
