Gewürtztraminer works here in the hands of Topper’s Mountain in New England. It could even be a new benchmark for this grape variety on Australian shores or help build the profile of the New England region if this is not a one off. The marriage of grape variety and Australian region (in this case New England) is something that I have long held to be a desirable development. The same point was raised 120 or so years ago in 1891, proving this quite a radical thought. In the glass, the wine has aromatics that are pure and definitively remind of lychee and white pepper. The palate is also an exhibit in lychee and pepper characters, coupled by a lovely balance and length on the palate. Enjoyable drinking.
