Chiroubles is one of the ten named Beaujolais crus. The subregion tends to produce a lighter style of wine from the gamay grape, compared with many of its fellow crus due to Chiroubles’ more pronounced altitude and cooler climate. The 2010 Chiroubles release from well known négociant house Georges Duboeuf has aromatics of fresh raspberry and strawberry, with an earthy edge. The palate is well crafted, with its chalky texture, acid and red fruit flavours, reminding most of raspberry and strawberry, reaching an agreeable balance. Resembling more a Beaujolais Villages or even a simple Beaujolais, it is nonetheless a balanced and food friendly wine, whose acid cut through and complemented well a spicy chicken dish.
