Calmel & Joseph Les Terroirs Saint Chinian 2011

Another bottle shot evidencing consumption with an element of gusto.  Saint Chinian extends over very dry terrain in the foothills between Minervois and Faugères in the deep south of France.  This wine is a blend of syrah (60%), grenache (30%) and carignan (10%).  It works well.  Aromatics of dark cherry and an elegant impression of brooding plums and liquorice.   The palate delivers slightly less than the very attractive nose promised, but it is very balanced with a blueberry driven fruit character that is quite expressive and supplemented by some anise characters.  Overall, a balanced wine with nice fruit that presents value at its price point.
