Marcarini Ciabot Camerano Barbera d’Asti 2010

In the $25-$35 price range, the barbera wines of Barbera d’Asti and Barbera d’Alba present some compelling value.  When they work, they are a happy combination of savoury, good length, good fruit and reasonable prices.  This particular wine from the Barbera d’Asti appellation is a good example.  It has aromatics of plum skins, gravel and plum, and gives a savoury impression.  The palate has medium acidity, lightish tannins that are fined grained and resolved, and medium length with flavours reminding principally of spiced plums and earth.  It’s a balanced and enjoyable wine that is ready to drink now.  Good
