Penfolds Bin 707 Cabernet Sauvignon 1966

I have previously tasted a bottle of Penfolds’ Bin 707 cabernet sauvignon from the 1966 vintage, and to this day, it remains the greatest wine I have tasted.  A second bottle opened on the weekend reminded me of its greatness.  A peerless expression of cassis – sweet, but not too sweet, coupled with depth, texture and length.  Seemingly timeless, this is a stunning wine.  Very low level cork taint unfortunately caught up with the fruit a little by the second glass.  Even then, the wine shone reminding of a first growth Bordeaux, yet from a region supposedly too warm for cabernet sauvignon.
