Crawford River is located in the somewhat unknown and under-developed, yet quite beautiful, south west of Victoria.

Crawford River is well known for its riesling, and when ripe, their cabernet can be very good too.  Their 2004 riesling was pale in colour, with a white gold appearance.  The wine had a complex aroma that was simultaneously a touch mealy while displaying notes of kerosene, lemon, blossoms and slate.  The dry palate had some spritz, with high acid, medium length and clean flavours.  It’s not cheap at $60 (although it appears available cheaper at auction), but this is a characterful riesling that I thought to be very good.  88-89 points (very good)
