This pinot gris is another in Wine Selector’s chef series of wine, this time put together by Scotchmans Hill with fruit from the 2011 vintage in the Mornington Peninsula and sporting the name of well known celebrity chef Ben O’Donoghue.
Pinot gris based wines are rarely the centre of the wine universe, but they are nice to have around, easy to drink and go well with food – the very purpose of this wine. It’s a pale lemon in colour, with attractive pear skin, spice and nectarine aromatics. The palate is typically broad with lemon citrus, spiced pears and a warm stoney minerality and pleasant length. A good example of the variety from the Mornington Peninsula and a success from the difficult 2011 vintage in that region. 86-87 points (very good)
