Mont-Redon Réserve Côtes du Rhône 2012

Château Mont-Redon is a négociant based in Châteauneuf du Pape in the southern Rhône valley.  I’ve enjoyed releases from this producer in the past, and I particularly recall their 2007 Châteauneuf du Pape that I rated highly back in 2012 – see my review here).  In contrast, their Côtes du Rhône release from the 2012Continue reading “Mont-Redon Réserve Côtes du Rhône 2012”

d’Arenberg The Custodian Grenache 2013

d’Arenberg’s preservation of old bush vine grenache in McLaren Vale continues to mean, in my humble opinion, that their grenache based wines are a cut above most and represent terrific quality for their price.  The 2013 vintage of “The Custodian” is 100% grenache.  Its aromatics remind of redcurrant, spice, chocolate and game.  The palate isContinue reading “d’Arenberg The Custodian Grenache 2013”

Domaine Roche-Audran Côtes du Rhône 2014

I was impressed by this Côtes du Rhône from Domaine Roche-Audran.  It’s a blend of 70% grenache, 15% syrah and 15% carignan, the vineyard is biodynamic and the vines are between 35 and 100 years old.  In the glass, it’s a step up from the usual CDR.  It has complex aromatics of white pepper, peppercorn,Continue reading “Domaine Roche-Audran Côtes du Rhône 2014”

Chateau D’Anglès Grand Vin Rouge 2008

The appellation of La Clape is situated within the wider Languedoc region on the Mediterranean coastal ranges near Narbonne.  The region experiences very high average annual sunshine hours, and the elevations are up to 200 metres.  It is well suited to syrah, grenache and mourvedre style wines, and the 2008 grand vin rouge here fromContinue reading “Chateau D’Anglès Grand Vin Rouge 2008”

Guigal Côtes du Rhône 2011

I view Guigal’s Côtes du Rhône as the entry level benchmark of the southern Rhone valley style of GSM (grenache, syrah and mourvedre) blends.  It is universally available in my experience, well made and is good value.  The blend is in fact 50% syrah, 45% grenache and 5% mourvedre.  An “SGM” blend somehow rolls ofContinue reading “Guigal Côtes du Rhône 2011”
