From Duckhorn in the Napa Valley in California, this wine is the 2021 “Decoy” Zinfandel. There are few zinfandel producers in Australia and not many zinfandels from the United States on these shores. The closest local analogue would be a late picked hot climate grenache. This particular wine resembles the southern Italian style of Primitivo, but with more candied and expressive fruit and no edges. Its aroma reminds of raisins and dates, resembling a Port. The palate is full bodied and the finish is dry. The flavours remind predominantly of raisins and sweet boysenberries. The bold fruit of this wine has a lot of appeal and is suitable for current drinking. Review Rating: Good to Very Good (★★★, 89 points). Website: Duckhorn Vineyards. Tasted: February 2025.
