This a good pinot gris from Stockman’s Ridge and the high altitude Orange region, a region that is able to produce European styles of Australian wine.  In the glass, the wine is a pale lemon in colour, with aromas of pear and pear skins.  The palate finishes dry and has saline characters and some texture from time on lees and a portion of the wine having spent time in barrel.  The alcohol is a modest 12.3% and its medium-full body is supported by fresh acidity. In style, it is more serious, and has more primary fruit intensity, than a typical pinot grigio from the Veneto. Ready to drink now, this is a well made pinot gris.   Review Rating: Very Good (★★★★, 90 points). Website: Stockman’s Ridge Wines. Source: Sample. Tasted: March 2024.
