With no bottles taking its place on the local wine shelf, I feared that I may have tasted the last of this producer’s wax sealed wines from the 2014 vintage and the Yea region. I recently however spotted a 2016 vintage for sale (in 2022). Unlike the 2014 vintage, this wine is more syrah than shiraz in style. It has cool climate herbal and pepper aromas that resembles a Saint Joseph for international readers and old school Craiglee for local readers. The wine is cooler and more medium bodied than Yarra Valley syrah, despite the Yarra Valley not being particularly distant. The palate is spicy, intense and the acidity at times bracingly high. This cooler climate expression of shiraz is ready to drink now. Rating: Good (★★★). Reviewed: April 2022.
