Moss Wood Ribbon Vale Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2010

Moss Wood Ribbon Vale

From Moss Wood’s Ribbon Vale vineyard, the 2010 vintage is a blend of 75% cabernet sauvignon, 18% merlot and 7% cabernet franc. A deep ruby in colour, the wine has taken on some tertiary characters of earth and has savoury red and dark fruits. It is bottled under screwcap; the argument that screw capped reds do not age is simply not supported by evidence. The palate is between medium and full bodied and the alcohol is a not too high 13.5. The wine’s tannins are fine and mid weight, the length medium and the finish balanced. The oak has been fully integrated, noting the wine spent 26 months in barrels. Overall, this Moss Wood Ribbon Vale wine gives an impression of mature red fruits and a merlot contribution that is higher than its 18%. The wine does not have the overt herbal characters of many Margaret River cabernet sauvignons and is a little too ripe and fruit driven to be mistaken for Bordeaux or even a wine from elsewhere in Australia. Ready to drink now, this is a pleasant wine. Rating: Good (★★). Reviewed: March 2022.
