This wine review is of Ansgar Clüsserath’s Mosel Riesling Spätlese from the 2019 vintage. It is a fine, crystalline wine with low alcohol (8.5) and a medium dry finish. Its aroma reminds of lemon and freshly cut, just ripe pineapple. The palate has good tension between its very high acidity and its residual sugar. This is a very high quality expression of a Mosel spätlese riesling. Perhaps my only concern is when you might drink this wine. Despite being complex, high in acidity, having a balanced palate and a minerally bearing, its sweet finish provides fewer opportunities to enjoy this style and it will mostly grace dessert dishes or cheese tables. This excellent riesling can be approached now, but will likely improve over the next 5 to 8 years, and age for a further decade and beyond. Rating: Very Good.
