From the Rheinhessen region in Germany, this riesling from Wagner Stempel is near to the Nahe in both location and style. From the 2019 vintage, a vintage with high expectations, it opens to appealing minerally aromas of stones, together with lemon and yellow grapefruit. The palate is on the dry side of the dry to off dry spectrum. You can taste a little residual sugar initially, but it is chiselled away with time by this wine’s refreshing, high acidity. Medium length and a stoney finish completes the picture. This excellent Rheinhessen riesling can be approached now, but will suit a further 3 to 5 years in the cellar and has a drinking window of 7 to 10 years. Rating: Good to Very Good.
