Pietradolce Etna Rosso 2015

I have tasted very few Etna wines.  This wine is made from nerello mascalese, which presents with both pinot noir and nebbiolo like attributes.  Very pale in the the glass, the 2015 Etna Rosso from Pietradolce opens to aromas of potpourri, sour cranberry and roses with time.  On the palate, it is light to medium bodied with good length and has warmer climate smoke and cherry characters.  Its nebbiolo like highish acidity and firm tannins take some time to reveal themselves, but add substantial interest when they do.  Oh, and this is most definitely a food wine – it changes substantially (for the better) in its company.  (Alc: 13.5%, Region: Etna, Sicily, Italy, Rating: Good, Drink: now to 2023?, Tasted: September, 2017)
