Mont-Redon Réserve Côtes du Rhône 2012

Château Mont-Redon is a négociant based in Châteauneuf du Pape in the southern Rhône valley.  I’ve enjoyed releases from this producer in the past, and I particularly recall their 2007 Châteauneuf du Pape that I rated highly back in 2012 – see my review here).  In contrast, their Côtes du Rhône release from the 2012 vintage is an entry level affair.  It’s a blend of syrah and grenache (proportions not disclosed).  Game meats, spice and red plum skins feature by way of aromatics.  The palate is full bodied, the length shortish and the fruit not particularly concentrated, but equally the wine is in balance, perfectly pleasant and keenly priced.
