Alkimi The Good Earth Grenache Noir 2015

This wine is the 2015 grenache noir from Alkimi. The grapes were grown at the Camelback vineyard in Heathcote on a patch of Cambrian soil at the base of the Mount Camel range.  I’ll return to Heathcote’s ancient soils in a later post, but they really are something special.  I think the picking decision here was exactly right, with the wine retaining freshness that balanced well against the fruit driven flavours of the grenache.  In the glass, Alkimi’s 2015 grenache (bottled in September 2015) has aromatics that remind of cranberry and spices.  The palate is balanced with some texture and flavours of lavender and sweet cherry (with no confection).  Fresh and good, this wine disappeared quickly.
