d’Arenberg The Ironstone Pressings 2012

I’ve said this before, but d’Arenberg has some outstanding grenache vineyards and it shows, particularly in an outstanding year like the 2012 vintage in McLaren Vale.  It will not surprise then that this is an excellent release of the Ironstone Pressings, a blend of 70% grenache, 25% shiraz and 5% mourvedre.   It has aromatics of bramble fruits, plums, earth, graphite and gamey characters.  The palate has long length, good structure and reminders of earth, blackberries and game.  At $65, this is still a bargain.
