This wine is from Helen’s Hill in the Yarra Valley, and is a (red) Bordeaux blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, cabernet franc, malbec and petit verdot. It tastes very young. Deeply coloured, its aromatics remind of clove, cedar and still integrating blackcurrant. The palate shows some high quality blackcurrant flavours, medium length and is medium bodied. The asterisk is that that the acidity of this wine seems very prominent at the moment, and affected my impression of the wine’s balance. In a word, “pinched”. Some early picked grapes in the blend? This may come around with age.
